Attack on Titan 3 gameplay
Current through the official August 4, 2026 update
Attack on Titan 3 gameplay links revised omni-directional mobility combat to squad leadership, exterior expeditions, resource decisions, and time at Regimental HQ. The player is a customizable Scout Regiment member rather than a detached observer: official descriptions place that Scout inside the story from the beginning of the series through its finale and give the player responsibility for a squad.
The announced systems form a continuous cycle instead of four unrelated modes. Preparation changes what can be attempted outside the walls; field movement creates opportunities and danger; the expedition asks whether to press forward or retreat; and returning to headquarters turns the result into new preparation, relationships, and story material.
Prepare
Build a squad at Regimental HQ, interact with characters, and choose the people who will enter the operation.
→Move
Use revised omni-directional mobility, explore outside the walls, eliminate Titans, and construct supply bases.
→Risk
Expand territory while managing resources, then decide whether the squad should push farther or retreat.
→Return
Bring the expedition back to headquarters for preparation, bonds, and newly told story material.
↺The player’s place in the story
Official descriptions frame the campaign around a customizable member of the Scout Regiment. That places the player alongside the existing cast while the game revisits events from the start of the series to its finale. The material also promises newly told story content, but it does not provide a chapter list or a complete division between adapted and new scenes. The useful boundary is therefore viewpoint and scope: the player has a personal Scout, follows the broad series span, and encounters additional material within it.
Squad leadership is part of that role. The player assembles companions for Exterior Scouting Missions and is expected to consider each character’s strengths when building the squad. The publisher has not released numerical role tables or a full skill catalogue, so this guide does not assign unofficial classes. The confirmed point is that squad composition belongs to preparation and feeds directly into the expedition rather than existing only as a social collection system.
Revised ODM combat
The omni-directional mobility battle system returns in revised form. New Titan attacks and behaviors are intended to change the pressure of an encounter, while simplified controls address approachability. The publisher also announced a Casual Mode for players who want an easier entry into the high-speed movement. No exact difficulty multipliers, stamina formulas, damage values, or accessibility matrix has been published, so those details should not be inferred from the mode’s name.
The official pitch puts speed, aerial positioning, and Titan elimination inside a broader field problem. Combat can protect territory, clear the way for exploration, or preserve a supply route. This matters because an Exterior Scouting Mission is not described as a chain of isolated arenas. Movement, construction, resources, territory, and fighting all contribute to whether the squad can advance safely or should turn back.

Exterior Scouting Missions
Exterior Scouting Missions are the clearest statement of the new strategic layer. Before departing, the player assembles a squad. In the field, that squad explores outside the walls, eliminates Titans, expands controlled territory, and establishes supply bases. Resources have to be managed across those actions rather than treated as an unlimited background value.
The defining choice is whether to push farther or retreat. Advancing can extend the operation, but the official description ties progress to resource pressure and risk. Retreat is therefore part of the loop, not simply a failure screen: deciding when to return is one of the responsibilities of the squad leader. The available information does not publish a complete loss table, mission timer model, or procedural map system, so this page keeps the decision at the level the publisher describes.
Supply bases connect the map-level goals to immediate survival. Building them is one of the named expedition activities, alongside exploration and Titan elimination. Territory expansion likewise suggests that an operation changes the usable field, but the official material has not supplied map counts or a permanent territory metagame. The safe reading is that these systems operate during exterior missions and give combat a logistical purpose.
Regimental HQ between operations
Regimental HQ is the preparation and relationship space between battles. The player can interact with characters, deepen bonds, prepare a squad, and see newly told stories. The headquarters therefore closes the expedition loop: a return from the field is followed by decisions and interactions that set up the next departure.
The official character page currently exposes 35 named records, but that list should not be read as a complete mechanical roster specification. It confirms who appears in the published character directory, the Japanese name used for each entry, the credited Japanese voice actor, and whether the page shows one or two visual variants. It does not provide every character’s combat kit, bond rewards, unlock requirements, or availability by story point.
The announced structure supports a deliberate rhythm. Fast combat is one part of play, but the game also asks the player to organize a squad, choose how far an expedition should go, and spend time with the Regiment afterward. That sequence explains why the systems are best understood together rather than as separate feature bullets.
What has not been specified
Several practical details remain outside the current public record. There is no published count for chapters, exterior maps, mission variants, supply-base types, bond levels, playable combatants, difficulty tiers, or equipment statistics. The Steam achievements schema returned no achievement entries in the recorded pre-release capture, which is not evidence that the finished game will have none. It only describes what that endpoint exposed at the time of capture.
The game is listed as single player on the official product page and stores. The present descriptions do not announce cooperative play or competitive modes. Voice is listed in Japanese, while text support is listed for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Those product languages are separate from the language options of this independent wiki.
Finally, the statement that all Nine Titans appear should remain exactly that: an appearance claim for this entry in the game series. Without a published control list, it should not be converted into a promise that all Nine are playable. The same principle applies throughout this guide—keep the connected system clear, and keep absent specifics absent until an official update supplies them.
